Director, Internal Communication and Engagement
Dr. Laura L. Lemon is an associate professor at The University of Alabama in the Department of Advertising and Public Relations. As Director of the Internal Communication and Engagement initiative, she builds partnerships with colleagues in the college and across the country to pursue and fund research projects that revolutionize our workplaces so that employees feel more valued and supported through communication. These partnerships ensure that organizations aid in the development of social capital with the consequences affecting both organizational solidity and a civil society.
Dr. Lemon’s award-winning research agenda focuses on theory building in internal public relations, with emphasis on internal communication and employee engagement. She has nearly 40 peer-reviewed publications that can be found in top journals, and most recently published a book, The Mindful Qualitative Researcher, as part of Sage’s Qualitative Research Methods Series. Prior to academia, Laura spent over seven years as a professional in the private sector assisting organizations with effective public relations. She is a member of the Thought Leadership Circle for the Internal Communication Research Hub at the University of Florida, a key contributor for the Organizational Communication Research Center with the Institute for Public Relations, and past chair for the Public Relations Division of the National Communication Association.
