The rapid expansion of online, mobile, social, and ambient media has been amplified by the wealth of information technology that we have at our fingertips. These advances have given us the ability to collect and consume a wealth of knowledge. While most current research addresses how to efficiently use this technology, there is little research being conducted that looks at how this technology is affecting our society from an economic, political and cultural standpoint.
The Technology, Culture and Society initiative addresses how this innovation impacts society, individuals, and industry from an approach that’s more critical of the current practices. The initiative seeks to look at communication from the perspective of the technology we use to advance it, with the hopes of understanding its short-term and long-term impacts on society, while also educating consumers and producers alike about the implications.
