The Institute for Communication and Information Research (ICIR) is the College of Communication and Information Sciences’ (CCIS) resource incubator, providing support for the college’s research and creative activity. Our mission is to cultivate scholarship that impacts how communication and information creates stronger communities. We support the faculty, staff, and students in CCIS in three ways:

Scholarship Communication
The ICIR highlights the influential scholarship produced across the college. Through our @UACCISScholars social media accounts and our blog, Footnotes, the ICIR and its student content team help faculty, staff, and students share their work.
Industry Collaboration
The ICIR strengthens connections between the college and the industries we serve through research and creative activity. By fostering partnerships and providing thought leadership, the ICIR highlights how work produced in CCIS impacts society and our well-being.

Collaborative Research Units
The ICIR oversees several Collaborative Research Units (CRUs) that produce interdisciplinary scholarship in communication and information. This work addresses critical questions shaping the field, examining how communication and information practices impact the communities we aim to inform and protect.
